Berrow Pre-School celebrates Diwali with day of themed activities

-

Children and staff at a pre-school near Burnham-On-Sea have held a day of Diwali celebrations.

Through the course of the week the children at Berrow Pre-School coloured Rangoli patterns on the floor, made and decorated clay divas, and learned the story of Diwali.

“The children loved the idea that it was a story which was not written down but instead it was in their heads and their mouths,” said the pre-school’s Daycare Manager Annette Milburn.

“They also had two Bollywood dance sessions with their dance teacher Briony, and had the opportunity to explore the large world map to find out more about India,” said the school’s Annette Milburn.

“The Pre-School invited all of the children and their families to attend the event which included Bollywood dancing, a retelling of the Diwali story and a chance to light all of our candles.”

They also decorated themselves in the mehndi style, with some using scarves and saris.

The event finished with the children, their families and helpers enjoying an Indian Feast.
