Burnham-On-Sea residents are rallying to help victims of flooding on the Somerset Levels.
Thousands of pounds have been collected for Somerset Community Foundation’s emergency flood relief fund in the town in recent days.
Burnham Rotary Club is among those supporting the fund by collecting at Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll over the next few days – and it had a great response on Thursday, as pictured above.
Meanwhile, Burnham Nursing Centre is appealing to staff and visitors for donations that will be given to the Somerset Levels flood victims. “If members of the public would also like to donate then they can pop in to the home with their items – we are looking for food, toiletries, clothing, bedding, towels, kitchenware, toys and books.”
N-Hance Hair and Beauty in Burnham High Street, right, is also helping to raise money and awareness for the Somerset Emergency flood relief fund by collecting in its store.
A group of local parents, whose children go to Lympsham First School are holding an event on Friday (21st February) to raise money for those affected by the flooding. It is a family fun day ‘stay and play’ at Lympsham Sports Club from 9am to 3pm.
Meanwhile, three members of Burnham-On-Sea Moose Lodge 123 Ladies Circle – Doreen Ateyo, Pat Burrge and Joan Hoare – are organising a coffee morning at St John’s Church Hall in Highbridge on Saturday 1st March in support of flood victims. Tickets are available by ringing Doreen on 01278 793759, or Pat on 788134, or by paying on the door. Coffee, tea, cakes and a raffle will be on offer.
Burnham Lions continues to collect money in Burnham town centre as well in aid of the flood relief appeal.
Local supermarkets have been helping too. Asda in Highbridge has delivered food and supplies to those in need across the flooded area, while Tesco in Burnham has collected £2,000 for the flood fund. Lidl, Morrisons and the Co-op have all helped too.
