Burnham-On-Sea Food Festival announces Local Food Hero Awards

-

Organisers of the Burnham-On-Sea Food & Drink Festival have this week announced the three winners of their Local Food Hero Awards for 2014.

Stefano’s Homemade Food, Heavenly Hedgerows and Tricky Cider will be presented with their awards at the Food Festival this Saturday (May 24th).

Festival Director Beverley Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We created these awards to celebrate the traders who we feel have backed the festival, have a drive for their businesses and deserve some public recognition for their hard work and commitment.”

Fellow Director Sarah Milner Simonds added: “We are looking forward to welcoming these traders and 80 others to the festival on Saturday – we hope you agree that we have brought the best of Somerset into the town for the day.”

Stefano’s Homemade Food won for its commitment to sourcing and producing authentic & delicious food rooted in the local terroir

Heavenly Hedgerows is also a winner due to its great range of products produced with care, attention to detail and that allow the flavours to soar.

Tricky Cider has also been praised for its consistent commitment to the Burnham festival.

Stefano Salvati of Stefano’s Homemade Food said: “We are delighted to accept this award, thank you very much and thank you also to all of our customers for their support. We feel very lucky to have access to such top-quality, local ingredients which allows us to continue bringing a piece of the Southern Italian coast to England. We are also incredibly grateful to have met Bev and Sarah – their outstanding local knowledge, enthusiasm for local produce and excellent support offered to local producers such as ourselves is second to none. Grazie molte a tutti!”

Al and Steve of Tricky Cider added: “As craft cider makers in a very competitive market, we are absolutely delighted to receive this award.”

And Chris Westgate of Heavenly Hedgerows said: “It’s such an honour to receive this accolade from my own community, and I’m very touched. It means so much for my company, Heavenly Hedgerows, to be recognised in this way as our ethos has always been about producing innovative, quality products from locally-sourced and forged ingredients, of which the West Country has a magnificent bounty. I’m so grateful to the farmers who allow us considerate picking access, and to the public who continue to support and grow this kitchen-table enterprise into one of the area’s top foodie businesses.”

The trio will receive their certificates at 11am during the festival.
