Fire crews were called to this Burnham-On-Sea home yesterday (Tuesday) when 60mph winds from the former Hurricane Gonzalo blew away cladding and caused damage across the area.

Crews were called to Mendip Way at 8am when a large quantity of cladding was blown from the front of the home, pictured here.

“The cladding was blown loose and left in a precarious position. Our crews removed it and made it safe again,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Elsewhere, several trees were blown down in the area, including in Queen’s Square in Highbridge, and in Burnham’s Worston Lane. A tree fall in East Huntspill, pictured below, brought down several overhead cables.

Several local businesses also face costly repair bills after their signs were damaged in Burnham, pictured below. A small number of homes were briefly without power.

Several shops in Burnham town centre suffered damage on Tuesday morning when their signs and front fascias were damaged by the strong winds.

The damage is pictured above at barber shop Hair of The Dog in Burnham High Street.

And, right, Burnham clothes shop Peacocks also saw one of its advertising signs blown down and split in the winds. Several other businesses also suffered similar damage in the town centre.
