Nostalgic Highbridge railway journey offered by local history group

-

Nostalgic new images showing a train ride across the Somerset Levels from Highbridge Railway Station are set to be screened this week.

North Sedgemoor Local History Group is stepping back in time to revisit the time when steam trains ran across the levels to Glastonbury.

“We shall be travelling, via a slideshow, from the line gates at Highbridge to Glastonbury on the former Somerset & Dorset Railway,” said the group’s John Strickland.

“We shall pass the old wooden footbridge by the line gates and the S&D goods shed to cross the GWR Line before going under the Walrow road bridge.”

“We’ll then re-join our train at the S&D Highbridge Station before alighting to travel past Bason Bridge, Edington, Shapwick and Ashcott stations and journeying on to Glastonbury.”

The meeting starts at 7pm this Wednesday (November 12th) in King Alfred School’s Lecture Theatre. Visitors can attend the slideshow for just £2 or membership for the current programme of talks is £5.
