Jackdaws rescued by carers after tumbling down chimney into house

Wildlife carers from Secret World near Burnham-On-Sea were called to rescue two jackdaws who shocked the owners of a home by falling down a chimney into their living room.

Secret World responder Greg Kelloway from Burnham was called to the property near Bridgwater where the two birds were recovered dazed and covered in soot.

They were taken to Secret World in East Huntspill for treatment where they are recovering well.

Secret World's Debbie O’Keefe said: "The two birds have been aptly named Dumb and Dumber!"

"It’s not unusual for us to receive birds that accidentally tumble down a chimney, but these two were lucky they didn’t sustain any major injuries. It's hoped they will be released this week."

Meanwhile, Secret World has been inundated with hedgehogs too small to hibernate, the most recent admission only weighing in at 150g, hedgehogs need to be at least 600g in weight to survive the winter months.

A new Christmas appeal has been launched called 'All creatures great and small' where the charity is inviting supporters to make donations by texting SWWR00 to 70070 to help animals through the festive season and beyond.
