& video: Jousters do battle on Burnham-On-Sea beach!
afternoon of medieval-themed entertainment on Burnham-On-Sea beach
on Sunday (July 27th) drew hundreds of spectators.
unique mixture of hobby horse jousting and themed fun was held
next to The Pavilion in aid of Burnham's Poppy Fund.
afternoon started with the arrival of a group of colourfully-dressed
knights and pages, followed by the arrival of a 'royal party',
led by Burnham's town crier, before the jousting got underway.
hobby horse jousters charged at each other several times with
lances before a winner was eventually declared to cheers from
event ended with a game of community football with the players
taking part with their arms behind their backs in a Burnham versus
the world challenge.
stalls were also set up on Esplanade pavement, selling crafts
and merchandise for charity.
Gaynor Brown said was pleased with how the second annual event
had gone. She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We had a good turnout
of spectators, helped by the sunny weather, and a fun afternoon
was had by all - thanks go to those who took part and came along
'royal party' arriving at Sunday's tournament on the beach
drama as Burnham's town crier faces one of the jousters!
