Burnham-On-Sea’s mini lighthouse trail set to launch today

-

A day of entertainment and music will be held today (Saturday, May 3rd) to mark the launch of Burnham-On-Sea’s mini lighthouse trail.

Artists from HABA (Highbridge and Burnham Artists), who are organising the trail, have completed the 33 mini 6ft replicas of Burnham’s iconic beach lighthouse.

A special day to launch
the Burnham Lighthouse Trail is being held at the Lighthouse Inn in Highbridge Road from 12 noon.

“A selection of the painted mini-lighthouses will be there and there will also be an opportunity to purchase a trail map so you can be one of the first to find all 33 lighthouses when they go out to their locations,” HABA’s Sarah Berryman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“There will be family art workshops, a craft fayre, live music with local musicians and the chance to put a loved one’s name on our celebration bunting.”

The Lighthouse Trail is raising funds for Burnham-based cancer support charity Petal, which is run in memory of resident Christine Woodberry who died of cancer.

In addition to raising funds, it is hoped the lighthouses will attract extra visitors into the area.

The decorated lighthouses will be on show in Burnham, Brean, Lympsham, Watchfield and Highbridge – in various supermarkets, shops, tourist destinations, holiday camps and other public places. They will be auctioned off in the autumn.

They have been built at Woodberry Brothers and Haines in Highbridge by Paul Plume (pictured) who has spent many hours constructing the wooden structures.

Lighthouse trail guides are available from the tourist information centre on Burnham’s seafront.
