Flashes of sheet lightning illuminate Burnham-On-Sea seafront

-

Flashes of lightning and rumbling thunder woke residents in Burnham-On-Sea today (Saturday) during a severe electric storm.

The flash lightning was caught on Burnham-On-Sea.com’s seafront webcam, pictured above, in the early hours where The Esplanade was briefly illuminated by the storm, which lasted around 20 minutes.

The Met Office warned that heavy, thundery rain would affect the area through the day with surface warter causing difficult driving conditions.

It said the extreme conditions were caused by warm, humid air being pulled northwards from France, meeting cooler air.

Forecasters predict that conditions will recover on Sunday in time for Burnham’s annual Jazz In The Park.
