M5 re-opens after crash between Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater

-

Three motorists have been injured in a crash which shut the southbound M5 at Burnham-On-Sea this morning for several hours (Wednesday).

The accident between a lorry and a car occurred at 2.15am between junction 22 at Burnham and junction 23 for Bridgwater North.

The M5 was closed until around 9.30am when a single lane was opened and it fully re-opened late morning.

The crash left oil and debris over the carriageway which the Highways Agency and police have been clearing to try and get the M5 re-opened.

Long queues of traffic built up in the area, especially along the A38 through Highbridge as motorists sought alternative diversion routes. Police say three people were taken to hospital and one was left with serious injuries after the incident.
