Highbridge student experiences gruelling day in the life of a Marine

-

The 40 Commandos unit in Taunton put Highbridge student Gary Jordan through his paces when he and other Bridgwater College students experienced a day in the life of a Royal Marine.

Gary has been among a group of Sports and Public Service students from the college who have been learning about the skills and equipment a member of the Royal Marines needs for their challenging job.

The group was shown some of the specialist kit required for snowy conditions, such as expeditions in Norway, and they also took part in a laser quest in the woods and had a go at weapons handling.

Physically demanding activities were also on the agenda, such as tyre flipping and wall climbing, but they also got to learn first aid and how to treat a bullet wound.

Ruth Burrows, Associate Lecturer, said: “The students were very enthusiastic, motivated and were excellent ambassadors for Bridgwater College. The feedback from the Commanding Officer was very positive and we hope to build on these industry links in the future.”
