A film is to be screened at Burnham-On-Sea’s cinema in January to raise funds for a popular Highbridge event.

The Highbridge Festival Of The Arts will benefit from a special matinee screening of Philomena at the Ritz Cinema in Victoria Street.

“After previous screenings of Mamma Mia, Best Marigold Hotel and Quartet we are delighted to be holding another special film screening and by kind permission of The Ritz Cinema,” a spokeswoman for the festival told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The film screening always proves to be very popular and is one of our biggest fundraising events of the year so we would urge people to book their tickets.”

The film will be shown on Monday 26th January with doors opening at 1.30pm and the film starting at 2pm. Tickets, costing £5, are available from The Ritz on 01278 785465.

Philomena is a 2013 drama film directed by Stephen Frears, based on the book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by journalist Martin Sixsmith. Starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, it tells the true story of Philomena Lee’s 50-year-long search for her forcibly adopted son, and Sixsmith’s efforts to help her find him. The film has been recognised by several international film awards.
