Burnham-On-Sea District Pantomime Society is this week celebrating after winning several nominations and awards at the Somerset Fellowship of Drama Cinderella Trophy Awards.

The annual ceremony, held in the Winter Gardens at Weston, saw 27 pantomime groups from across Somerset competing.

The Burnham group scooped several awards after its seasonal show, Puss In Boots, pictured here, which was held at the town’s Princess Theatre in January.

The award of Best Dancer of the Year went to Laura Sandford-Hughes. She also was nominated for best singer of the year, and best Animal role.

Awards for Best Stage Design went to Mo Cooper and Alastair Murray, for the scenery design and painting.

The society’s Stuart Blair won the award of Best Special effect, The Fire Breathing Dragon. He also received a nomination for Best stage management.

A special award went to Shannon Manlow for her role as the Jester, and there was als a nomination for Best Original Costumen to Denise McKenna and best junior chorus.

Mo Cooper, Chairperson, told Burnham-on-Sea.com: “Everyone involved in this year’s Puss in Boots under the direction of Lorna Blair was a winner, it takes a team effort to allow the stars to shine, so a big well done to them all.”

Laura has been offered places in several theatrical national schools and needs sponsorship, so any help from local Burnham businesses and residents is appreciated.
