Parachutist collides with spectator at Weston Air Show

-

A parachutist and spectator have been taken to hospital after they collided at the Weston Air Show on Sunday.

A parachutist, part of the RAF Falcon display team, collided with an 82-year-old woman as he came into land on the beach at around 1.20pm.

The red air ambulance, pictured here, landed on the beach and took both people to hospital.

The helicopter was assisted by Coastguards and Burnham’s BARB who were there to provide safety cover.

Photographer Nicholas Hayman from Weston saw the accident unfold. “I was snapping away and as the last parachutist on the stack came down he hit the burger van,” he said. “There was a massive thump and everyone went silent.”

The incident was captured on video below at the end of the display.

“Neither person has life-threatening injuries and the parachutist has since left hospital,” said a police spokesman.
