Field of poppies to be planted in Burnham’s Manor Gardens today

-

A stunning display of poppies is to be laid in Burnham-On-Sea’s Manor Gardens this afternoon (Sunday) as part of a special tribute to those who died in conflicts.

During the build-up to Burnham’s annual Remembrance Day service, silk poppies are being sold to the public in the town which are then being planted in Manor Gardens to create a scarlet field of floral war tributes.

They will be planted in the Manor Gardens today during a special event being held at 2.30pm and due to be attended by the Mayor, MP and other dignitaries.

Organiser Gaynor Brown from the Burnham Poppy Appeal told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We will have a couple of hundred laid there on Sunday, with a bagpiper providing background music.”

“We’d love to see 1,000 poppies planted there, which is our target. It would look very special. We have sold just over 100 so far but there are plenty of other opportunities for people to buy one over the next few weeks.”
