Prince Edward set to visit Burnham-On-Sea charity today

-

The Earl of Wessex is to visit Burnham-On-Sea today (Monday, June 9th).

Prince Edward will be visiting BARB Search & Rescue where he will meet volunteer crewmembers and see the charity’s two life-saving hovercrafts and inshore rescue boat.

He will hear about the charity’s work during the winter flooding on the Somerset Levels and see plans to further develop the charity’s seafront station.

He will also unveil the latest of seven information panels on the sea wall – this one featuring Royal visits to the Burnham area over the last millennium.

Over 70 children from Burnham St Andrew’s School will be welcoming him to the seafront at 2.30pm, waving flags.

“We are delighted and honoured to be welcoming the Prince back to Burnham five years after his last visit. He has showed a great deal of interest in BARB’s work and we are looking forward to telling him about our plans for the future,” said a BARB spokesman.

The visit comes just days after BARB received the news that it had received a Queen’s Award For Voluntary Service, featured here.

Princess Alexendra was the previous Royal family member to visit Burnham back in 1995 when she opened the town’s Princess Theatre.
