Remembrance Day parade to be held in Burnham-On-Sea this Sunday

-

A parade will be held in Burnham-On-Sea this Sunday (November 9th) to mark Remembrance Day.

The re-launched Burnham branch of The Royal British Legion is organising a parade along Oxford Street, followed by a Remembrance Day ceremony at the town’s War Memorial outside Burnham Hospital in Love Lane.

Groups taking part in the parade will gather in the Oxford Street car park at 10.15am. It will set off at 10.30am and is due to include Burnham’s army, air and sea cadets plus local Scouts, Brownies and Guides plus others.

The parade will head to Burnham’s War Memorial, arriving at 10.45am, where a ceremony will be held including a bugler playing The Last Post.

The Parade Master for the event will be Mike Mansfield and a reading will be recited by Neville Jones. Gaynor Brown, from the Burnham Poppy Appeal, will also be reading a poem.

Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Martin Cox will be among the civic dignitaries attending the events.

In Highbridge, a service will also take place at St John’s Church at 3pm to include a ceremony at the nearby war memorial.

Burnham’s Royal British Legion has been saved from closure in Burnham after dozens of people came forward to offer their help following an announcement that it was closing last month, as we reported here.
