Burnham-On-Sea Rifle Club is to receive a much-needed funding boost to overhaul its aging headquarters, it has been announced this week.

The club, based in Cassis Close next to the Burnham Area Youth Centre, has this week been awarded £2,500 of grant funding from Sedgemoor District Council.

Paul Upham from Burnham Rifle Club told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is really vital funding for us and hugely appreciated.”

“Our building was constructed in the 1960s and urgently needs upgrading and maintenance. We have water leaking through the roof and ceilings and have also suffered vandalism recently.”

The money is earmarked for a major repair to the building in order to improve security and insulation.

Facilities will also be improved for disabled club members.

The funding boost was decided during Tuesday’s meeting of the Sedgemoor District Council Grants Panel following an application from the club earlier this year.

The long-running club has a 25-yard and 50-yard range for .22lr Rimfire cartridges and five firing points for rifles.

The range is available to the club’s members to use from 7.30pm-9pm on Monday and Thursday evenings.
