A lifeboat was pulled through the streets of Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (July 27th) during the RNLI station’s open day to mark its tenth anniversary in the town.
Crewmembers heaved an RNLI Land Rover and a lifeboat along The Esplanade from the jetty to the Pavilion and then along the High Street while collecting donations from spectators.
Organiser Tim Walters told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We got a warm reception all along the route and hope to make this an annual event. We had plenty of great support.”
A number of activities and demonstrations took place during the day, including several lifeboat launches from the beach using a D-Class lifeboat, pictured right.
During the day there was also a photo competition, a display by the RNLI Beach Lifeguards, plus welly wanging, a tombola, raffle, cake sale and more.
The station’s Operations Manager Matt Davies told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The event was a great success and a perfect way to mark the 10th anniversary of our return to Burnham, helping to raise the RNLI’s profile and funds at the same time.”
