A Burnham-On-Sea woman who suffers from a debilitating disease has this week received a ‘life-changing’ mobility scooter to give her freedom.

Linda Lee, who is known as Lin to her friends, suffers from pain all over her body plus fatigue, muscle stiffness and other problems.

Although she can still drive her automatic car for short distances, when she gets there, she can do very little as walking even 50 yards can be hugely exhausting.

She also cannot do any of the basic things in life such as weekly shopping and therefore has been becoming more and more housebound.

When Burnham Lions heard about her plight via Burnham’s MP Tessa Munt, they teamed up to help her buy a mobility scooter that is now giving her the freedom to do the things many of us take for granted.

Burnham Lions’ Colin Holdom told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A few weeks ago Tessa Munt visited Burnham’s Fibromyalgia Group when Lin mentioned that she was trying to find somewhere that might be able to assist with the cost of a mobility scooter. Tessa suggested contacting us at Burnham Lions.”

“As soon as the request for financial help was received from Lin, Burnham & District Lions voted unanimously to provide the help and support she’d asked for.”

“Finding a suitable scooter was far from easy as it had to fit into a suitable vehicle with a special remote control hoist to enable it to be lifted in and out of the vehicle by Lin herself.”

“Eventually, a suitable scooter was found and it arrived, paid for by the Lions, together with a hoist part paid by the Lions and a suitable vehicle, as part of the National Motorbility Scheme.”

At the handover of the mobility scooter, Lin formally thanked Tessa and Burnham Lions and said she is “hugely grateful” for the life-changing donation.
