Second crash in three days at Burnham accident blackspot

A second crash in three days at a Burnham-On-Sea accident blackspot has put further pressure on Somerset County Council to introduce new safety measures.

A car slammed into a wall on the sharp bend in Stoddens Road, near the junction of Rectory Road, soon after 5pm on Tuesday (August 5th).

Two men, both of whom are believed to be local, escaped without serious injury but the incident again raises safety questions there just three days after Saturday's crash at the same spot.

Town councillor Phil Harvey, who has family living on the bend and has been pressing for safety improvements, told "Enough is enough - this is just ridiculous. The bend is very dangerous and these two accidents show that action is urgently needed before a pedestrian or motorist is seriously hurt."

"This is the 16th accident at this bend over the past 30 years, showing that action is needed. It is only by pure chance that no pedestrian has been hurt."

"This week's incidents have both involved local drivers who know the bend - it's not been tourists from out of the area."

Both incidents occurred after heavy rain is believed to have caused slippery conditions.
