Residents in the Burnham-On-Sea area have been warned to brace themselves for more extreme weather over the next few days.

These were the scenes in Burnham on Wednesday (Ferbuary 5th) as the high winds and rain hit the area.

Forecasters from the Met Office say the region is set to be hit by a series of storms this week which will bring more gales and heavy rain.

Yellow weather warnings are set to continue on Thursday, Friday and into the weekend.

“Renewed severe gales will arrive during Wednesday daytime. The focus will be around the middle of the day and early afternoon, with the potential for gusts to around 70mph in some coastal areas, possibly 80mph in the most exposed sites in the southwest,” said a spokesman.

The potential for disruption is likely, says the Met Office. “A gradual change to more showery conditions is expected on Wednesday but still with some longer spells of rain, which could bring a further 20-30 mm over the hills in Wales but with 10-15 mm being a more general figure.”
