Burnham's MP to hold Commons debate on cuts to children's centres

Controversial cutbacks to children's centres in the Burnham-On-Sea area will be debated in Parliament next week.

Burnham's MP Tessa Munt has secured time in the House of Commons for the debate, which will take place on Monday, February 3rd during the evening session.

She told "I'm extremely concerned about the future of children’s centres in Somerset, particularly those under threat in my area."

As we first reported here last November, Somerset County Council has said that Burnham's Octopus Children's Centre could be among the 18 centres across the region in jeopardy.

Highbridge Children's Centre would continue to operate normally, but five centres, including the Octopus Centre, would be 'de-designated', meaning they will no longer be classed as Children's Centres.
