£440,000 Burnham-On-Sea town centre revamp set to get underway

-

A set of town centre improvements is gathering pace in Burnham-On-Sea following the appointment of a new Town Centre Manager.

Beverly Milner-Simonds, pictured, took on the new role last month and says Burnham’s town centre will see a number of changes over coming months.

“We are awaiting final confirmation of the start date for the street works but are expecting them to be completed by early February,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“There will be new planters, new lighting columns in Victoria Street, new lights in the High Street, a change of paving and tarmac in a new events area, and 20 columns for hanging baskets and events banners.”

She added that plans to introduce new advertising banners along the High Street are also progressing to help promote local events.

“I am working on the booking guide for the event banner spaces and have asked for quotes for the hanging basket planting and maintenance from three local providers, including Burnham in Bloom.”

She added: “Creating improvements to the street scene – how the town looks and feels – was an important outcome from the council’s steering group and I am pleased that these improvements are finally being delivered.”

The whole package of improvements amounts to £440,000 and is being funded by Tesco to offset the expansion of its Burnham store, along with grants from the Town Council and former South West Regional Development Agency.
