150 athletes head to Burnham-On-Sea for today’s annual triathlon

-

Dozens of athletes from across the region will be converging on Burnham-On-Sea today (Sunday, April 27th) when the town holds its annual spring triathlon.

Organised by Burnham-On-Sea Swim and Sports Academy, the Super Sprint Triathlon and Junior Triathlon will be held from 7am and several roads in the town will be closed.

The Esplanade and Seaview Road will be closed to all traffic from 4am until 12 noon, while The South Esplanade from Pier Street will be re-opening from 9am.

“We have a full entry of 150 adults in the Super Sprint which starts at 7am and this will be followed by the junior event of 100 children from 9.30am,” organiser Martin Rogers told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“It will be a great event, not only for those taking part, but spectators too with lots of action to watch.”

Competitors will be starting in waves every five minutes up until 9am. Having swum 10 lengths of the pool, the athletes will then run to their bikes racked on Seaview Road, and ride three laps (10km) of The Esplanade, taking them down to Burnham Yacht Club and back.
