New warning of 70mph winds in Burnham-On-Sea area this morning

Residents in Burnham-On-Sea are being warned to expect high winds this morning (Friday, December 12th) as a winter storm sweeps through the area.

The Met Office updated its yellow weather warning for the south west, predicting that winds gusting up to 70-75mph will hit the area.

A spokesman said: "There is the potential for gales, severe along some coasts, and accompanied by heavy rain, to spread across southern areas of England during the early hours of Friday, before easing during the morning."

"Gusts may reach 50 to 60 mph inland and perhaps around 75 mph in some exposed coastal districts."

The Met Office says the public should be aware of the risk of damage to trees, disruption to travel and possibly to power supplies.
