Burnham YMCA shop remains shut two weeks after rain storm
YMCA says the ongoing closure of its Burnham-On-Sea shop due to
flooding caused by a torrential rainstorm two weeks ago is a "significant
blow" to its local fundraising.
shop in Burnham High Street has been closed since August 5th when
torrential rain caused flooding in several shops and businesses,
as we first reported here.
Ingrid Willis, area retail manager for YMCA in the south, told
Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: "It has been necessary to close
our shop in Burnham over the last two weeks while we deal with
damage caused by flooding."
"The closure is a significant blow to us as a charity, as
it has had a substantial impact on both income and donations."
Wooden flooring in the shop was badly damaged by the water and
is having to be replaced throughout the shop at the busiest time
of the year for the shop.
Ingrid added: "We will re-open the shop as soon as essential
repairs are carried out, which we are hoping will be completed
by the start of next week, however it is likely there will be
a need to close for an additional refit later in the year."
"We are hugely grateful to all our customers and local people
for their support at this time and thank regular customers and
those wishing to make donations for their patience."
