Great Burnham Bake Off returns with new harvest-themed challenges

The Great Burnham Bake off is set to make a tasty return to the town’s Food Festival this Autumn.

The next festival, on Saturday October 31st, will see several new categories being introduced for budding bakers.

Festival organiser Bev Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has been a popular competition at the last six Food & Drink Festivals. This time, we are not only looking for the best cakes, but also bread and a Christmas Cake from our professional bakers.”

Fellow organiser Sarah Milner Simonds continued: “The Technical Challenge last time was searching for meringues, this time we want three matching shortcut sausage rolls.”

“We are also embracing the harvest time with a search for carrot cake and Christmas cakes. We are also asking bakers if they are happy to share their bakes with the other bakers.”

Sponsor Debbie March from Burnham’s Retreat Caravan Park said: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has become an established part of the local calendar and we are very proud to be the sponsor. I am champion of young bakers and I am delighted to raise their profile with this competition at the ‘Bake Off’.”

Bakers can download entry forms and rules here and present a completed form and their bake before 2pm on Saturday 31st October at Somerset Skills & Learning in Burnham’s Princess Street.
