Busy Easter Day for BARB crews with two call-outs in just one hour

-

BARB Search & Rescue’s volunteers had a busy Easter Sunday after being called out to two incidents in the space of an hour.

The charity’s inshore rescue boat crew was first called to help wildlife carers with a rescue at 3pm on a river near East Huntspill.

The charity’s rescue hovercraft was then called to Berrow Beach at 4pm to assist Coastguards with a mud rescue where a 15 year-old girl had got into difficulty on the mudflats.

“The quick response to both incidents on Easter Sunday again showed the dedication of our superb volunteers,” said BARB Operations Manager Mike Lowe.

BARB Search & Rescue is a registered charity that is run entirely by volunteers. It has helped and rescued hundreds of people since it was formed over 23 years ago.

Meanwhile, BARB is holding a special open day and fundraising hovercraft pull at its seafront station this Saturday (April 11th) from 11am-4pm.

The event will begin with the charity’s long-running annual hovercraft pull by crewmembers, which this year takes place through Burnham town centre.

There will also be a chance to see BARB’s hovercrafts and rescue boat up close, meet some of the crewmembers, and pick up beach safety advice.
