The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have confirmed they are to field candidates in Highbridge when a by-election is held there next month.

Two people put forward their names before the nominations closed on Friday evening to compete for a vacant position on the Town Council.

Terry Dommett will represent the Conservatives while Victoria Weavell will be the Lib Dem candidate – both are pictured above.

Claire Faun, spokeswoman for the district council’s election department, confirmed the by-election will be held on Thursday 12th November between 7am and 10pm. Polling cards will be despatched to those registered to vote in the ward.

The by-election has been called after the previous councillor for Highbridge stood down for personal reasons.

Victoria said: “I am a young mum with two small children and come from a politically active family here in Burnham. Like many, I moved away to University for my education but now I’m back home and am looking forward to representing Highbridge residents if elected.”

Terry said: “I served on the Board of Homes in Sedgemoor, have been a member of the Audit Committee, and been a Highbridge representative on The Tenants Voice. I believe in standing up for our community. I will campaign for a safer community, support independent shops and fight for local jobs and opportunities. I want to improve the lives of people and help them do the best possible for their families.”
