Burnham duo’s car wash raises over £340 for typhoon-hit Philippines

-

Two Burnham-On-Sea teenagers who are planning to visit the Philippines to help rebuild and repair communities badly affected by recent typhoons raised over £340 by holding a car wash on Saturday.

A long line of dirty cars kept James Whitrow and Tom Creswick busy through the day as they rolled up their sleeves to wash the vehicles.

The duo recently launched their fundraising campaign to cover the costs of their trip to the country later in 2015. Their six-hour car wash was held outside Burnham Baptist Church in College Street in chilly winter weather.

They thanked all those who supported them. Tom told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Thank you so much to everyone who came and supported us, and in particular those who payed a tenner or even £20! Special thanks go to James’ mum, Louise, who stayed the entire day, as well as to the Baptist Church for letting us use their facilities and warm water all day, I’m sure it would’ve been a lot more miserable without the hot water!”

James added: “Although we now have very achey arms and wrinkly hands, we always had in our mind that we were doing it for the greater good, and that it would be helping people suffering worse than us.”

The duo also have an online donations page here where funds are welcomed.
