Objections over Burnham care home’s plan to convert into 11 flats

-

Town councillors have this week lodged objections over plans to convert an elderly residents home in Burnham-On-Sea into a development of 11 flats.

The owner of Newton Lodge Residential Home at 139 Berrow Road in Burnham is seeking full planning permission for the scheme to convert the premises into 11 self-contained flats.

Members of the Town Council’s Planning Applications Committee considered the plans this week and gave the scheme a ‘thumbs-down’.

“We are objecting on the grounds of over-development of the site,” said Town Council Clerk Denise Emery.

“The highway access is also poor, the visibility splay is severely limited at the junction of Berrow Road, and the proposed design of the extension is not in keeping with the design of the rest of the existing property.”

Sedgemoor District Council is inviting feedback on the plans – reference number 11/15/00031 – until July 21st.
