Eighteen year-old Abbi Fear has been chosen as Burnham-On-Sea’s new Carnival Queen following a ceremony on Friday night (March 20th).

At a special selection evening held in Burnham’s Ritz Social Club, the teenager was chosen by a panel of judges to lead this year’s carnival parade.

The judges also picked this year’s Princesses, 9 year-old Scarlet Puddy and 11 year-old Ruby Jane Barton.

Abbi told Burnham-On-Sea.com she is delighted to have been picked for the role. “It’s an honour to have been chosen and I’m really looking forward to the carnival in November. I’m a big fan of the carnival so to be chosen for this role is really special!”

During the evening, each of the nominees was asked a question and encouraged to show their individual personality during a five-minute slot. The judges then assessed them and picked the winners after a performance by the Lisa Jane School of Dance.

Organiser Linda Bullimore told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a really good quality line-up of entrants again this year which made the judges’ jobs all the more difficult to choose the winners, but it was a wonderful evening and we thank everyone for coming along and making it a success.”

The queen’s selection is the first event in the run-up to this year’s Highbridge and Burnham Carnival, which is to be held on Monday November 9th.
