A huge crowd of around 35,000 people lined Burnham-On-Sea’s streets last night (Monday) to see the town’s spectacular carnival.

Over 50 floats and 50 walking individuals paraded through the town for the 68th annual Highbridge and Burnham Carnival.

The mild weather swelled the crowd numbers along the route and organisers said it had been one of the biggest crowds seen for years. Click here for Carnival Results.

Carnival President Malcolm Borland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a super evening – it was great to see such large crowds out all along the route enjoying it.”

The start of the parade was briefly delayed by 15 minutes due to a recovery truck not arriving in time for the 7.30pm start.

Some of the biggest cheers of the night were for Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club, whose It’s A Cracker entry proved popular with spectators and earned a second place in its class as we reported here.

Burnham Police said it had been a quiet evening for them, with no siginificant crime incidents.

This year’s parade was led by Carnival Queen Abbi Fear alongside her two carnival Princesses – Scarlet Puddy and Ruby Jane Barton, who all received a warm reception along the route.
