A Burnham-On-Sea community group is making final preparations for a new festive event in the town centre, which is set to include live music acts, a fun fair and entertainment plus a late night shopping evening, on Saturday 12th December.

The event – called the Christmas Spectacular – is being organsied by BEST (Burnham Events Social Team).

It includes the proposed closure of the whole High Street and includes a large family-friendly fun fair and market, with the addition of a live music stage that may include an act from a previous X-Factor winner.

“We are putting in place a live stage which will showcase some great local talent and groups,” said one of the organisers, Kathy Jones.

“With late night shopping included in the day’s activities, we wanted it to live up to the event title. We want to make it ‘spectacular’ so we have been in talks with various management and music agents and we’ve managed to secure an opportunity to have a former X-Factor winner perform this year, whom we believe will make the event ‘spectacular’.”

“The artist is still in the charts and previously has had albums and singles out in the last few years and is very well known. No one has attempted this in Burnham before but we believe this will be an event to remember.”

“We have been working on the plans since March. Our plans have been developing since last year’s cancelled late night shopping event, and we wanted to give Burnham an event it can be proud to say was in their town.”

“We have got in place some activities which we think will be great for a family-friendly day out to Burnham in the run-up to Christmas.”

The group has worked with Burnham Chamber of Trade and the Town Centre Manager, who has also booked the Cheddar Cheese Brass Band and the Mudlarks Choir to perform on the day.
