Brent Knoll cider maker celebrates winning coveted gold award

-

A Brent Knoll cider maker is celebrating this week after winning a gold award in the industry’s leading awards competitition.

Westcroft Cider’s Janet’s Jungle Juice has won a joint gold award by being named Cider Of The Year for the third time since 1997.

CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, announced the winners of its annual National Cider and Perry Championships this week.

Westcroft Cider’s owner, John Harris, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This fantastic news came completely out of the blue, so I’m really pleased – it’s great recognition.”

“It’s the third time we’ve won gold and I think we’re the only cider maker to do that in the whole UK.”

This year’s competition featured ciders and perries from across the UK, with each cider and perry judged on its individual taste, aroma, flavour, after-taste and overall appeal.

The top awards were selected by a specially chosen panel of experienced judges, drinks writers and CAMRA members.

Andrea Briers, CAMRA National Cider and Perry Committee Chairman, said: “The quality and variety of real cider and perry is increasing year-on-year, making our job as judges increasingly difficult.”

“With a set of truly excellent drinks available this year at the festival, and a competition which was very tight right until the final judging we are confident these ciders and perries can truly be known as the best in Britain.”
