Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Cinema is set to be expanded with a new £150,000 third screen this autumn after its owners this week got the go-ahead for the project.

The popular cinema in Victoria Street – which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year under the ownership of Pat and Beryl Scott – will get a new 72-seat screen that is set to open in October.

Ritz Social Club, which owns the building, has this week signed a new long-term lease with the cinema owners that includes the construction of the extra screen to show more films and entertainment.

The new air-conditioned, sound-proofed auditorium will seat up to 72 people in comfort and will cost around £150,000, to include a state-of-the-art £50,000 projector.

Pat told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We love this building and are so pleased to have reached this important milestone. It means building work is now starting this week on the new screen.”

“We’re keen to further widen the range of films and live entertainment we offer, so a new third cinema screen at the back of the current building is ideal.”

Ritz Social Club Chairman Paul Hale told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re very pleased to have signed this agreement that will help the cinema expand. The tenants are great and we wish them every success with their third screen.”

The plans have also been given approval by Sedgrmoor District Council.
