A motorist was taken to hospital after an accident in Highbridge on Saturday evening (September 19th) which left his car into two halves.

The Honda Civic collided with a roadside sign on the approach to the roundabout near to Highbridge’s Isleport Recycling Centre.

The impact of the crash split the vehicle into two sections, with the back end left embedded in a sign post and the front end coming to rest several metres away under a tree.

The male driver inside received treatment from ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to hospital with several injuries that were not understood to be life-threatening.

Police were called to the scene in Mark Road just after 8pm. The road was partially closed for several hours to allow a clean-up operation and recovery of the debris to be completed.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to call them on 101.
