Long-awaited crossing opens along busy Burnham-On-Sea road

A brand new pedestrian crossing which aims to make a busy road in Burnham-On-Sea safer has been opened this week.

The project by Somerset County Council has seen a new crossing introduced in Berrow Road, next to the Texaco petrol station.

It has been installed on the busy stretch of road outside the Kathleen Chambers care home, operated by the Royal National Institute Of The Blind.

County Councillor Peter Burridge-Clayton, pictured, who has campaigned for the crossing for several years, told "I'm delighted the crossing is now fully operational and has been completed before the busy summer months."

"I would like to put on record my thanks to the contractors and Somerset County Council Highways staff for all their efforts in bringing this scheme to fruition, with the least possible disruption to the residents in the area."

"The work involved in this modern hi-tech crossing was considerable, and the efforts of all those involved is much appreciated. I am pleased my bid to Somerset County Council's 'small improvement scheme' was successful, and I'm sure this crossing will be a great benefit to the residents of the area, given the high volume of traffic that can occur on this road."
