Council halts traditional donkey rides on Burnham-On-Sea beach

Traditional donkey rides will not be offered on Burnham-On-Sea beach this summer, council bosses have said this week.

Sedgemoor District Council - which oversees beach concessions in the town - says the previous donkey rides provider has not had their licence renewed.

"We have decided to terminate the agreement because we were not fully happy with the service," the council's Tim Mander told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

"Donkeys are part of the traditional seaside scene so it is regrettable."

He added: "We have already had another provider come forward who may be able to provide some weekend and peak school holiday donkey rides, but nothing is confirmed yet."

Meanwhile, the council has already renewed a bungee-jumping trampoline concession, ice cream van and shellfish stall for Burnham seafront and beach for the coming season as in previous years.
