Burnham-On-Sea set to enjoy solar eclipse on Friday morning

Residents in the Burnham-On-Sea area look set to see the partial eclipse this Friday (March 20th) - providing the skies stay clear of cloud.

The Met Office says there is a risk of cloud cover on Friday morning at the same time as the eclipse, which is expected in the Burnham area at 9.28am.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "At the moment we are expecting most of the UK to be overcast on Friday morning when the eclipse is due to take place."

Thephatphilmz"There may be a few cloud breaks in the south west, however it is hard to be certain this far in advance."

Across southern Britain, the partial eclipse - when the moon starts touching the sun's edge - will start at 8.45am.

The maximum eclipse will hit at 9.31am and this will be the point when the moon is closest to the centre of the sun. By 10.41am the moon will leave the sun's edge and the partial eclipse will end. The last solar eclipse of a similar size took place on August 11, 1999.

People have been warned not to stare directly at the sun, even with some cloud cover, and should witness the eclipse safely.
