Burnham woman is crowned Miss Somerset 2015

-

A local woman from Burnham-On-Sea has won the title of Miss Somerset 2015.

Emily Sanders, 22, won the Miss Somerset title and the charity award at the latest round of the Miss England competition, held on Friday (29th May) in Leicester.

“The special recognition of my charity and voluntary work means so much to me – I really value this aspect to the Miss England competition, as it proves the competition is not about advocating a stereotypical image of beauty,” she said.

Emily, a trainee teacher, is involved with several local groups and charities. Last month, we reported that she’d organised a special fundraising ball at Rookery Manor to support Beauty with a Purpose and Variety, the Children’s Charity, which raised £4,000.

Emily says she hopes to use her new title and position in the Miss England competition to “advance causes that people care about in the community.”

She is now getting ready for the final stages of the competition and says she is excited about this.

Emily studied a degree in Modern Languages and History at the University of Exeter and has also studied abroad in China and Japan. She will complete her master’s degree in Education from September alongside her commitments.
