A series of new traffic management signs have been unveiled this week on a trial basis by Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council.

Designed in conjunction with Highways, they are positioned around Burnham next to main roads to give motorists advance warning of road closures in the town centre for large events that involve road closures.

Town Centre Manager Beverley Milner Simonds explained: “Highways suggested to the Town Council that we should be more proactive in traffic management for large events that involve closing roads and they helped us design the signs in accordance with traffic regulations.”

“This year is a trial. We will monitor the feedback on the effectiveness of these signs before deciding if they will be deployed in 2016.”

“We have pre-ordered the stickers for FolkFest, the Christmas lights switch-on, Carnival and the two Food & Drink Festivals and can add to this if more road closure applications for events are approved.”

“It has been agreed that the signs will be put out approximately (allowing for working day patterns) 14 days before an event and removed on the next working day after an event. The ones for the food festival were late going up due to staff illness.”
