More than £3,000 was collected for charity during Sunday night’s seafront fireworks in Burnham-On-Sea.

Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club, the official collector at the event, said it was grateful to all those who dig deep in their pockets to donate.

The club’s President Ashley Edwards told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “£3,151 was collected from a record number of spectators.”

“This amount, less £48 expenses, will be shared, as usual, on a 60/40 basis between the Rotary Club and Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, to support their respective local charities.”

He added: “We are most grateful for the generosity of spectators and to all our collectors, especially the army cadets, who assisted us on the evening.”

The crowd of over 5,000 people packed the seafront to watch the popular display, which was boosted by mild weather.
