Burnham-On-Sea restaurants improve food hygiene ratings

-

Two food businesses in Burnham-On-Sea have improved their food hygiene ratings after a coaching visit from Environmental Health Officers from Sedgemoor District Council.

The Shah Indian Cuisine in Victoria Street and the Zalshah Tandoori Restaurant in College Street previously rated 2 in the food scheme.

Both businesses were due to have their routine food hygiene inspections at the start of the year, but these were delayed until March 2015 as both were receiving an additional coaching visit following funding from the Food Standards Agency.

As a result of the coaching visit, the premises are now rated with higher scores of 5 and 4 respectively.

The food safety officer inspecting a business checks how well the business is meeting the law by looking at how hygienically the food is handled and stored; the condition of the structure of the buildings including the cleanliness; and how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.

“Our Environmental Health Officers are always happy to provide food businesses with information and advice to help them achieve a higher rating,” said council spokeswoman.

More details are available from Sedgemoor District Council on 0845 408 2540 or 01278 435435 for information or check the Food Standards Agency website for food hygiene ratings at www.food.gov.uk
