Flag Awards delight for Burnham and Highbridge parks
parks in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have achieved coveted Green
Flag Awards this week, ranking them among the best in the country,
it was announced on Thursday, July 23rd.
awards, announced by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy,
recognise the best parks and green spaces across the country.
Cove on Burnham's Esplanade is receiving its Green Flag Award
for a fourth year while Apex Park in Highbridge will receive its
for a ninth year.
Apex Park received its highest ever score to really highlight
how exceptional the park is.
1582 parks and green spaces have received a prestigious Green
Flag Award in 2015.
The new 2015 flags will be raised at both locations on Wednesday
29th July during the UK's annual Love Parks Week.
A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to the public that the
space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained,
holds regular events, is appropriately marketed and has excellent
Councillor Ian Dyer, Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council,
said: "It is with thanks to Sedgemoors Parks, Clean
Surroundings and Dog Warden staff, as well as the incredible support
from the Friends of Marine Cove Gardens and Friends of Apex Park
Improvements Group, that both parks are in tip-top condition for
their wide range of visitors."

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said:

green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant
sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including
horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community
