A big-hearted Burnham-On-Sea teenager has presented more than £4,700 to Bristol Children’s Hospital after holding a fundraising head shave in support of his cousin who is receiving cancer treatment there.

A huge £4,780.40 has been raised by 18 year-old James Tandy following his sponsored head shave for Bristol Children’s Hospital’s Gromit Grand Appeal.

Lauren Tandy, 17, pictured with James, is receiving treatment at Bristol Children’s Hospital but showed her support for James by attending the event at Asda in Highbridge on her 17th birthday last month.

James said he is “hugely grateful” for the support of friends, family and others who have donated towards the good cause.

The hospital has also expressed its grattitude and said the cash will help the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit by funding a specialist stretcher for the air ambulance, along with a high-tech monitor.

Shel Tandy, James’ mother, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am very proud of what James has done. He wanted to do something special to raise money for the hospital but no-one expected it would be as much as this.”

“We collected £400 on the morning of the event from Asda customers and the rest has come from family, friends and supporters via sponsor forms and Just Giving.”

James’ sponsorship page continues to be online here for further donations.
