Burnham's MP elected onto Commons Energy Select Committee

Burnham-On-Sea's MP has this week been elected onto Parliament's Energy and Climate Change Select Committee.

James Heappey attended the committee's first meeting on Wednesday 15th July.

Speaking about the role, Mr Heappey told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "I am really excited about my election to the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee and I hope to use this as a platform to discuss the many energy related issues affecting our part of Somerset."

"We will agree our programme for inquiries after consulting stakeholders this summer but clearly, I will be keen to discuss things like pylons, fracking, the citing of renewable energy schemes and the opportunities for tidal and wave energy in the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel."

The Energy and Climate Change Committee scrutinises policy, expenditure and the running of the Department of Energy and Climate Change as well as any associated public bodies such as Ofgem.

The Committee also plays a leading role in the wider debate on energy and climate change in this country.
