Burnham High Street to close on three evenings for resurfacing

Burnham-On-Sea's High Street will be closed on three evenings this week while resurfacing work is carried out as part of the town centre's programme of ongoing improvements.

A new surface is set to be laid by Somerset County Council, with the High Street closed on Monday March 23rd, Tuesday March 24th and Wednesday March 25th from 6.30pm until approximately 11.30pm each evening.

Paul Martin, the Project Manager who is overseeing the town centre improvements, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The work has been specially scheduled to minimise disruption on shops and businesses during the daytime when they're open."

It comes after the Town Centre Manager and Burnham Chamber of Trade asked for daytime disruption to be kept to a minimum.

The town centre improvements are due to be finished by the start of the Easter holidays. The work aims to enhance the appearance of Burnham town centre to encourage more shoppers and visitors.

The changes are part of a combined work package amounting to £440,000 funded by Tesco to offset the expansion of its Burnham store, along with grants from the Town Council and former South West Regional Development Agency.
