Man killed after being hit by train at Highbridge Railway Station

Police closed Highbridge railway station on Thursday (October 22nd) after a man died when he was struck by a passing train.

Emergency services were called to the station shortly after mid-day when the incident occurred.

A British Transport Police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that a man had been killed, and that they were not treating the incident as suspicious.

The spokesman added: “We were called to Highbridge and Burnham station at 12.09pm to reports of a person being struck by a train.”

“Colleagues from Avon and Somerset Constabulary and South Western Ambulance Service also attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify him and inform his family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Disruption to rail services continued through the day with many services delayed or cancelled. Normal services resumed at around 7.30pm.
